Test Results

In this chapter we try to compare PTS-DOS with MS-DOS 6.2 according to our own test results.

Modes:

  • 1 - Windows incompatible
  • 2 - Windows fully compatible
  • 3 - Windows fully compatible when Share, Fastopen (3 disks), Loadfix, Keyb, Disp, ANSI and extended floppy formats support are loaded
  • 4 - Windows fully compatible with UMB
  • 5 - Windows fully compatible with disk compression loaded

Notes:

  • Using HIMEM or HIMEM386 (PTS) only
  • In mode 3 MS DOS used 800.COM by Alberto Pasquale (PTS-DOS supports all nonstandard floppy formats itself)
  • In mode 4. PTS uses QEMM 7.03 by Quarterdeck
  • Tested on 386DX-40, 4, 210

Host disk space is 10 Mb. Only files from Windows For Workgroups 3.11 [12.819 Kb]) are on compressed disk.

Tests:

  1. Copying file group with XCOPY (Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with subdirectories, approximately 27 Mb) from HDD to HDD.
  2. Copying of a large file (8190 Kb) from HDD to HDD.

(All these tests are performed on 80486DX50 with IDE HDD avg. seek 7 ms)
