BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT CP
CP MAIN FEATURES AND FUNCTION
The CP (Command Processor) program is an original software product
intended for organizing dialogue and providing the user with the most
commonly used system utilities. CP requires less memory (only 512 bytes
when starting other applications). There is no need for loading another copy
of COMMAND.COM under PTS-DOS and MS-DOS environment. The loader kernel is
transferred to UMB, if present. CP stands out against other similar programs
due to its powerful handling of file and directory management: copying,
moving, deleting, creating back up copies, unerasing, archiving and changing
attributes of files, directories and groups of files and directories. It is
possible to execute a group of files as well as DOS commands for a group of
files which is especially convenient when working with archivers and
compiling program modules. The presence of extension files allows you to
execute various commands depending on a file extension, use external editors
to edit files, use programs to view archives and databases including those
contained in CP. An unlimited array of nested user menus and a possibility
to create your own keystroke macrodefinitions make CP attractive both for
beginners and professionals. A built-in editor operates with files of any
size in text and hex modes. The editor has powerful functions of moving
about files and search in two-mode operation. The memory map allows you to
view the contents of memory and UMB and remove resident programs. CP
package comes with programs allowing to view archives, databases, EXE and
COM files (and even disassemble them), as well as graphics PCX files.
Information on your computer, its devices, BIOS and DOS versions as well as
drives can be invoked by the user as CP functions. Disk utilities (including
various types of formatting), file and directory unerasing, creating and
restoring back up copies, archive packaging, pull-down menus, selecting and
adjusting interface colors and a number of other functions have been
performed as overlays. DESQview users are provided with extra possibilities
when using CP.
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
An IBM (TM) - compatible PC is required for work with CP using any
monitor and no less than 512K of RAM. The PC with a hard disk is desirable.
When starting any other application from inside the CP shell the latter
occupies only 512 bytes in memory. CP offers powerful support for work with
the mouse.
CP COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER SOFTWARE
When using the CP shell you should take notice of the following:
- CP is fully compatible with PTS-DOS 5.0 and higher.
- CP is fully compatible with MS-DOS 3.30 and higher.
- CP is compatible with command processors DR-DOS, 4DOS, and NDOS of the
Norton Utilities package only if you run the PATCH2E.COM application.
