Panel A occupies the left half of the screen. It contains the
following information on the files and subdirectories in the current
directory:
- name and extension,
- size,
- date of creation,
- hidden or system file label.
The names of subdirectories are displayed in capitals, those of files -
in small letters. The shaded rectangle between the name and the extension of
the file or subdirectory indicates that the "hidden" or "system" attribute
is set on the file or subdirectory. The middle column specifies the sizes of
files in bytes. For directories this column displays <DIR>. The size of a
directory is displayed only if you tag it. The top line of Panel A shows
the current drive letter and the name of current directory. Panel A
contains a selection bar that highlights one of the files or subdirectories.
Panel A is always active, i.e., all operations with files may be performed
only in Panel A.
Panel B serves almost the same purpose as Panel A. Panel B itself
consists of two parts, the right part being just the extension of the left
one. Panel B contains information on either the current directory of another
drive or a directory (including the current directory) of the current drive.
The top line of Panel B shows the drive letter and the name of the
subdirectory. In contrast to Panel A, Panel B doesn't display the dates of
file or subdirectory creation. Panel B also contains a selection bar, but
Panel B is passive. The right part of Panel B may contain a brief
description of the function keys (mini-help). Note that pressing and
holding down the keys [Shift], [Ctrl] and [Alt] modifies the action of
function keys. The right part of Panel B may be removed if you move the
mouse cursor to this part of Panel B and press the right button or using the
setup menu. See Section "Options".
Information Panel is located in the top right part of the screen above
Panel B. It contains:
- disk drive letter,
- the number of tagged files in a given subdirectory,
- the total size of tagged files,
- free space available on the disk,
- the capacity of the current disk,
- volume label.
The middle column of this panel displays the information pertinent to
the current drive of Panel A, its right column - to the current drive of
Panel B.
The Command Line Panel is displayed at the lower right corner of the
screen. The blinking cursor in the command line is an indication of CP's
readiness to accept your commands. When you type in characters they are
displayed in the command line at the position the cursor points to. After
you press [Enter] the command line is passed to the DOS command interpreter
and is treated as an ordinary DOS command. The command line contains 128
characters and allows editing with the following keys:
[left arrow] - moves the cursor one position to the left,
[right arrow] - moves the cursor one position to the right,
[Home] - moves the cursor to the start of the command line,
[End] - moves the cursor to the end of the command line,
[Backspace] - erases the character immediately to the cursor left,
[Del] - erases the character over the cursor.
At the bottom of the screen on the right side, the size of free
available RAM is displayed in the brackets. It has nothing to do with actual
memory size when starting another application while in the CP, but the
figure could be useful if working in limited RAM circumstances. The CP
functions normally with free RAM size over 64 Kb.
