Find file
Sometimes it is difficult to find a desired file in a crowded
subdirectory. For this purpose CP has the "Find file" option. This option is
valid for Panel A only. This feature may be called up by pressing the keys
[Ctrl-F].
There will appear a panel with initial pattern over the command line.
The initial pattern appears as ????????.???. The character "?" means that
any legal character may stand in this position, i.e., the pattern
????????.??? signifies the file with an arbitrary name and extension - any
file of the current directory. The panel with the pattern has the cursor
pointing to the place where the input character goes. Initially the cursor
is in the leftmost position of the pattern, i.e., if you press "A" , you
obtain the pattern "A???????.???" . After hitting an alphanumeric key, CP
automatically searches for a file matching the specified pattern, first from
the selected file till the end of the list and then from the beginning of
the list till the selected file. If matching files exist in the current
directory, the selection bar will stop on the first encountered matching
file, the cursor in the pattern panel moving one position to the right,
which means that CP is awaiting your next keystroke. If you need to specify
the pattern more accurately type the next character and the selection bar
will again move to the file matching a new pattern. If CP ignores the
character you typed in, i.e., the "?" character is retained in the given
position, this means that there are no files matching the assumed pattern.
You can use the "Search pattern" item in the pull-down menu when editing
the pattern.
