Format disk

This utility permits both to format diskettes and DOS-format logical
hard disks. To call the utility up select position "F-Format disk" in the
"Disk utilities" menu. In the panel which appears on the screen select the
needed disk using arrow keys or a mouse.

Next select the formatting mode ("complete", "quick", "verify").

Press "C-full" for complete formatting. In this mode full range of
physical and logical parameters will be input as well as low-level disk
format effected. Hard disks will be equipped with logical parameters and
all their tracks verified.

In "fast" mode only initial boot sector, FAT tables and the root
catalogue are re-copied.

Verification is done by testing all disk sectors and the action of
the "fast" mode.

After selecting formatting mode you will have to input the diskette
format. The outlay of the diskette format selection is shown below:

The utility, apart from standard diskette configurations has formats
set by the user (these are marked with an asterisk). If you do not find the
appropriate format call up the parameter correction mode (select 'Correct
parameters' in the menu). The layout of the submenu is shown below:

                         +-----------------------+
Set format parameters
                         +-----------------------+

sectors/Cluster 2
FATs 2
                         +-----------------------+
Proceed 1.2M
Leave menu
lOad parameter block
Save block as ...
                         +-----------------------+

To set a concrete parameter select a corresponding menu item and type
in the needed figure in a panel that will pop up. The first five are
physical parameters. They can be changed only in case of full disk
formatting. The last three are logical parameters. They can be modified
for any disk in any formatting mode with the exception of fast formatting.
Using item "O", parameters of any of the formats available can be loaded
into the correction menu. Having finished with the corrections you can
either start the formatting procedure (sub-item "P") or the save the new
format as one of the users' (sub-item "S").

When formatting a hard disk the user goes to parameter correction
menu from the formatting mode selection menu. It looks like that for
diskettes, only items "O - load parameter block" and "S - save block in..."
are missing.

After you have selected the desired format CP will ask you to insert
a diskette into the selected drive. You have two options:

     [Enter] - go on (after having inserted the diskette);
     [Esc] - cancel.
Upon completion the application wraps up with the final information.
