Deleting a file or a directory

To delete one file or a directory, move the selection bar onto that
file or directory and perform one of the following operations:

1) Select the "Delete" item in the "File" menu and then the "Highlighted"
   item in another submenu.
2) Press the key [F8].
3) Move the mouse cursor to the line "F8 Delete" in the prompt panel and
   press the left button.

As the operation of erasing is pretty risky, CP will prompt you to
confirm your decision each time you intend to erase a file or a group of
files. In case you are erasing a directory that is not empty you will have
to confirm the operation twice. Press [Y] to confirm your decision or [N]
or [Esc] if you changed your mind.

Deleting a group of files by a pattern

To delete a group of files by a pattern (for instance, all files with
extension *.COM) you may perform one of the following operations:

1) Select the "Delete" item in the "File" menu and then the "Named" item in
another submenu.
2) Press the keys [Shift-F8].
3) Press and hold the key [Shift], move the mouse cursor to the line
"F8 Delete .." in the prompt panel and press the mouse left button.

Then enter the file name or a pattern for erasure in the panel that
appears on the screen. When specifying a pattern you may use the menu for
editing lines in panels and the wildcard characters "*" and "?". For
instance, to delete all files with extension *.COM in the current
subdirectory you should only type in *.com.

                Deleting tagged files and subdirectories

Before erasing a group of files or subdirectories it is necessary to
tag the files and subdirectories you want to erase (see
"Tagging Files and Subdirectories"). You may erase the tagged files and
subdirectories by doing one of the following operations:

1) Select the "Delete" item in the "File" menu and then the "Tagged" item in
   another submenu.
2) Press the keys [Ctrl-F8].
3) Press and hold the key [Ctrl], move the mouse cursor to the line
"F8 Delete group" in the prompt panel and press the mouse left button.

                             Global erasing+

ATTENTION: Before using this function make sure that you have not forgotten
to untag the files you need, otherwise they will be erased. To
do so, you should invoke the list of tagged files and look it
           through (See "Show tagged files").

Global erasing may be accomplished performing the following operations:

1) Select the "Delete" item in the "File" menu and then the "All tagged"
   item in another submenu.
2) Press the keys [Alt-F8].
3) Press and hold the key [Alt], move the mouse cursor to the line
"F8 Gl. Erasure" in the prompt panel and press the mouse left button.

CP will prompt you to confirm your decision to erase a global group of
files. If you attempt to erase a group of files or perform global erasure
with no files tagged, the following error message will appear on the screen:
"No tagged files".

                              Wiping files

As you may know it is possible to restore an erased file. However CP
allows to not only erase files but also "wipe" them. It is impossible to
restore files "wiped" by CP. To install the "wipe" mode, see section
"Options+".

WARNING: The files "wiped out" by CP cannot be restored. Make sure that
you cancel the "wipe" mode after finishing "wipe" procedures.
