Attributes
The CP shell provides you with the feature to set-up and cancel the
attributes on files and subdirectories. To change the state of an attribute
of the file, move the selection bar onto the file or subdirectory and
perform one of the following procedures:
1) Select the "Attributes" item in the "File" menu and the "Attributes"
item in the submenu.
2) Press the keys [Shift-F1].
3) Press and hold the key [Shift], move the mouse cursor to the line
"F1 Attributes" in the prompt panel, and press the mouse left button.
A panel for changing the state of attributes will appear on the screen.
The file name is shown in the top right corner, the attributes - below. All
in all there are four attributes:
- "read-only",
- "hidden",
- "system",
- "archive".
"Read-only" attribute
For DOS if this attribute is ON, the file cannot be modified. While in
CP it is possible to modify the file with the "read-only" attribute. For
instance, CP's built-in editor allows you to edit such files.
"Hidden" attribute
If this attribute is ON, the file or the subdirectory will not be
listed on the screen by the DIR command. Within CP the hidden files are
tagged with the shaded rectangle standing to the right of the file name.
"System" attribute
It indicates that the file is a system file. Within CP the system files
are marked with the shaded rectangle standing to the right of the file name.
"Archive" attribute
This attribute is the indication of the archived file. Usually this
attribute is used by the BACKUP program.
The character "+" to the left of the attribute indicates that the
attribute is ON. You may change attributes by performing the following
procedures:
1) Using the keys [up arrow], [down arrow] move the selection
bar onto the attribute you want to change. The attribute is changed by
pressing [Enter].
2) Place the mouse cursor onto the attribute you want to change and press
the left button twice.
After you set up attributes you must select the item "Done" to save the
changes to the disk.
