                            VIEWING ARCHIVES

Often you would need to view headlines of an archive. You can do it
with the help of the same archiver by entering a respective option. But it
would be more convenient to use the special archive viewing application
ARCHVIEW.COM supplied with the CP delivery package. It is working
exclusively with the CP and therefore cannot be used separately. The
application can view archives created by one of the following archivers:
BSARC.EXE, BSA.EXE (supplied as a part of the CP kit), ICE.EXE, LHARC.EXE,
PKARC.EXE, PKPAK.EXE, PKZIP.EXE, LHA.EXE, ZOO.EXE, CHARC.EXE.

The archive viewing application allows you not only to view headlines
of an archive but also to view a selected file and to unpack a selected file
or tagged files. To load the archive viewing application automatically you
should have a command CPVIEW.EXT in the CP file extension directory (see
"Extension Files"). To support view/unpack files functions you will have
to enter ARCHVIEW in the following form:

     EXT: ARCHVIEW !.! [<Archiver><parameters>]

where <Archiver> is the name of the respective archiver with the path, if
the path is not specified in the PATH environment alternate; <parameters> -
parameters of this archiver used to unpack the file (if you want to view
sub-directories, add "Always say yes"). For example:

     BSN: ARCHVIEW !.! BSA -x -y
     BSA: ARCHVIEW !.! BSA -x -y -ibsa
     ARJ: ARCHVIEW !.! BSA -x -y -iarj

The ARCHVIEW loads a respective archiver to view files and unpack files
or groups of files. If the archiver is not specified then these operations
are not supported for this type of archive format.

The layout of the archive viewing panel is given below.

In the panel the following information is provided: archive name, file
list, initial file size, their final size, percentage of the file's initial
size, date and time of the file's creation, their attributes and the
archiving method. In the lower part in "Name" column a total number of files
in the archive is provided. Follows information on total initial and final
files' size. In the column "Ratio" the remainder of the final file size (in
percents to their initial size) is given. One of the files' names is
highlighted by the cursor.

The commands, moving around the file while viewing archive's names
coincide completely with the respective functions of the editor.
"????????.???" is a search pattern. Any character or letter-figure
combination you are looking for in a wanted file, can be substituted for "?"
The name of the file containing the specified character(s) in a specified
position is then highlighted by a cursor. If there is no file containing
the specified combination, nothing happens.

You can sort archive files by extension, name, size and creation date.
To do this press the keys [Ctrl-S]. A panel will then appear providing an
array of available sorting options. Using arrow keys or the mouse select
desired option and press [Enter] or double click the mouse left button. The
selected option will be marked with a point in a circle.
