                            Viewing database

     When you invoke the database editor the viewing mode is activated by
default. You cannot introduce any changes to the database contents in this
mode. It is very convenient if the database contains important information
you would like to keep intact.

     On the screen there is a box marked with some other attribute. Using
arrow keys you can scroll the contents upwards or downwards if the file is
too large to fit into the screen. In such a way you can see the contents of
preceding/following fields.

     The lines of the texts invoked for viewing can go beyond the box
borders. You can move the text to the left or to the right using the arrow
keys to be able to see the whole field.

     You can also use the following keys:

[PgUp]/[PgDn] - go over to the preceding/following record.
[Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn] - go to the start/end of the database.
[Shift-F3] - invoke the database editing mode.
[Shift-F4] - invoke the database form editing mode.

     You have options to view all "non-remote records", "remote records
only" and "records by a pattern". To select the needed mode press one of
the following keys: [F5], [Ctrl-F5] or [Shift-F5] respectively.

     To set a pattern or a filter press [F7].

                          Pattern setting panel

     The layout of the pattern setting panel looks like follows:

    +----------------------Filtration conditions---------------------+
    |                                                                |
    |  +-----Field name----+   +--------Comb.  Headline-----------+  |
    |  |      NAME         |   |   <=         Miller              |  |
    |  |      SECONDNAM    |   |   OR >       Ross                |  |
    |  |      THIRDNAME    |   |   OR !=      Donald              |  |
    |  |      GRAD         |   |   AND!=      Brown               |  |
    |  |      POSITION     |   |   OR >       Green               |  |
    |  |      COMPANY      |   |   AND>=      Andrew              |  |

    |  |      PHONE        |   |   OR =       Kane                |  |
    |  |      FAX          |   |   AND!=      Kent                |  |
    |  |      EMAIL        |   |   OR =       Dow                 |  |
    |  |      HOMEADDRE    |   |                                  |  |
    |  |      HOMEPHONE    |   |                                  |  |
    |  |      SERIALNUM    |   |                                  |  |
    |  |      FIRSTVERS    |   |                                  |  |
    |  +-------------------+   +----------------------------------+  |
    +----------------------------------------------------------------+

     In the left panel you will find the fields list, while in the right
one - conditions for a certain field.

     To move about in the field list the following keys are used:

[Up] - move the field selector by one position up.
[Down] - move the field selector by one position down.
[Home] - move the selector to the start.
[End] - move the selector to the end.
[PgUp] - move the selector by 14 positions up.
[PgDn] - move the selector by 14 positions down.

     To set conditions for any field highlight this field by the indicator
and press [Enter]. You will see then an indicator appearing in the
conditions panel. It can be moved up and down by the respective arrow keys.
If the indicator highlights a condition which already exists then upon
pressing [Enter] the old condition will be replaced by a new one. If the
indicator highlights an empty condition (it is usually at the bottom of the
conditions list), that will lead to the appearance of a new condition.

     Editing of the old (or setting a new) condition is done in the
following manner:

                          +---Logical operand--+
                          |    Add as AND      |
                          |    Add as OR       |
                          +--------------------+

     The logical operand says how the given condition will correlate to the
preceding condition (this operand is ignored for the first condition).
Having chosen the logical operand a condition choice menu appears:

                   +-----------Condition---------------+
                   |    >  Greater than                |
                   | <= Lesser than or equal to |
                   |     = Equal to                    |
                   |    != Not equal to                |
                   |    <  Lesser than                 |
                   | >= Greater than or equal to. |
                   +-----------------------------------+

     After you choose a condition and press [Enter], a box will appear for
input of the line which will be compared to fields in the records. After
inputting the line you return to the conditions panel. To exit any panel
press [Esc]. After you quit the pattern setting panel a new pattern become
active immediately if prior to that you were viewing records by a pattern.
Otherwise, to be able to see records by a new pattern you will have to press
[Shift-F5]. If no record suiting the new pattern is found you will be
notified.
