                        NATIONAL KEYBOARD DRIVER

                                Function

The NKD program (National Keyboard Driver) allows you to change the
keyboard layout. Using this program you can re-assign any key of the
keyboard, i.e., pressing a key will display on the screen any character from
the character generator set. This feature is usually used for adjusting the
keyboard to the user's needs, i.e., for creating the layout more suited to
the needs of a particular user.

To start the NKD program enter:

         NKD [option]

where [option] is one of the following:

    ? - Help
U - Remove resident part of the NKD from memory,
H - Set a "hot key" to switch fonts,
    L - Re-assign keyboard keys.

Installing and removing the NKD resident part

The NKD command line specified with no option installs the resident
part that enables the user to later enter the cyrillic characters from the
keyboard. In the lower right corner of the CP an indicator "Rus" or "Lat"
comes on depending on what font is used.

Use the command NKD U to remove the resident part.

                           Setting "hot keys"

The NKD program allows you to set your own language-switch keys. To do
this start the program with the option "NKD H". A box with the following
message will appear on the screen: "Setting "Lock" Key". The program will
then ask you: "Now type your key combination". Press the keys you want to
use (up to four, in any sequence). The reassignment will be done if these
keys are pressed simultaneously. Repeat the same procedure for setting the
"Shift" key. The program will confirm the reassignment and will ask you:
"Do you wish to save these keys?" Answer "Save" if you want them saved, and
"Don't save" to quit without saving:

                            Re-assigning keys

The NKD allows you to re-assign the keys i.e., to change the keyboard
layout. To do this start the program with the command line NKD L. To
re-assign a key select the character the key is to be assigned to using the
cursor, and press this key (using if necessary the [Shift] key). The proper
changes will be made to the keyboard layout image shown at the bottom of the
screen. After you finish with re-assigning keys press [Esc] to quit the
program. Answer "Save" to the prompt that will appear if you want to save
the changes made and "Don't save" if you want to quit without saving
changes. "Cancel" will allow you to return to editing the keys again.
