NOTEBOOK
Function
The CP distribution diskette contains the CPDESK.COM program - a
universal notebook. This small program is very convenient and will let you
avoid much trouble in your work. Using this notebook you'll be able to make
notes, to paste paragraphs of the text on the screen to the file being
edited. CPDESK has the help feature and the built-in table of
ASCII-characters.
Installing and removing from memory
CPDESK is a resident program. Type in CPDESK to install the notebook.
After installation the program can be activated by pressing [Alt-Enter].
You may install CPDESK using the option "I" . The program is activated,
i.e., it is stored in memory without restoration of the previous state. The
reason is that CPDESK stores its data in the CPDESK.SAV file. And the status
data are saved to the same file as well. When starting the program with
option I, data and status reading does not occur. However the data and the
status are saved automatically each time you remove the program from memory.
If you assign the wrong option the following message pops up:
Start: CPDESK [Option]
where [Option] is one of the following:
U - remove the program from memory;
I - activate the program without restoring the status.
To remove the program from memory and save the status type in CPDESK U.
Working with CPDESK
When the notebook is installed in memory you can pop it up by pressing
[Alt-Enter]. The program has the help feature. You may call the help feature
by hitting the key [F1]. Use vertical arrow keys to scroll the text in the
window. Press [Enter] to quit the help feature. Note: If you press [Esc]
you will quit the notebook.
You may locate the notebook panel at any part of the screen. To move
the notebook panel press [F2]. Using the arrow keys move the panel to the
desired place and press [Enter]. The notebook panel will now appear in the
new location you just selected, each time you invoke the notebook. Work in
the notebook editor is similar to that of any other editor, however, CPDESK
operates only in the insert mode.
For the sake of convenience the notebook is split into pages. There are
10 pages in all. Pressing the keys [PgUp] and [PgDn] you move around in the
notebook. The current page number is displayed in the lower right corner of
the notebook. To clear the current page press the keys [Ctrl-L].
The program also has the built-in table of ASCII-codes. Hitting the key
[F9] you can select CPDESK mode. Press it once more - and you return to the
regular operation mode. Using the keys [up arrow], [down arrow], [PgUp], and
[PgDn] you can scroll through the table.
CPDESK allows you to import and export texts. Using these features you
can transfer, for example, pieces of text from one file to another.
Importing Text
You may import a piece of text by pressing the [F5] key. Press that key
and, first, mark the upper left corner and then - the lower right corner of
the text. Use the key [Enter] to mark the text. The text fragment you just
marked will be transferred from the screen to the notebook starting from the
cursor position.
Exporting Text
Before you export a piece of text you must tag it using the [F3] key.
Pressing the key for the first time starts tagging the text in the notebook.
Tag the text using the cursor keys. Press [F3] for the second time to
finish tagging. The "Tag" indicator appears at the bottom of the notebook
panel which means that the text has been tagged. Pressing [F3] for the
third time untags the tagged text.
To export the text press the key [F4]. The tagged text will be
transferred to the edited file starting from the current cursor position.
You can abort the export process if you call the notebook by pressing
[Alt-Enter]. The part of the text that has been already transferred will be
untagged. The "Exp" indicator that appears at the lower left corner of the
notebook panel indicates that the export has been aborted. Press [Esc] to
continue exporting.
Note: CPDESK offers the capability of block operations for
work in the CP built-in editor.
