BACKUP COPYING IN BACKGROUND MODE
To start backup copying in background mode call up the module TRUST
BACK main menu to introduce the necessary parameters. You can call it up in
the following way:
1) Select the item "Setup" in the "Other" menu. Then, in the following
menu, select the item "B-backup copying installation".
2) Press the keys [Ctrl-S] and [B].
The main menu then appears:
+-----------------------+
Trust Back Main Menu
+-----------------------+
M - copying mode
O - options
A - add to archive
S - save setup
L - load setup
H - planner
E - quit
+-----------------------+
COPYING MODE
+----------------------------+
Backup copying mode
+----------------------------+
(*)C - copy modified files
( )T - copy tagged files
( )B - begin copying
E - exit
+----------------------------+
This option enables you to choose between backup, background (resident)
and interactive modes. First two items in the menu are resident modes. Their
description follows below. The third mode enables you to start backup
copying at once, without leaving the Setup menu.
OPTIONS
The backup copying process depends on a number of user defined
parameters. Menu for entry of these parameters looks like as follows:
+------------------------------------+
Backup copying options
+------------------------------------+
[v] with sub-directories
[ ] verify on
[ ] as archive (BACKUP.nnn)
[ ] clear target disk
[ ] LotLAN support
S - save and exit
+------------------------------------+
With sub-directories
With this option set, the tagged directory with all its subdirectories
will be copied. Otherwise, it will be copied only with its files.
Verify on
After each write operation the verification will take place.
As an archive
With this option set, the backup copy will represent one or several
BACKUP.nnn files. Otherwise, it will be saved simply as a copy of a file.
Clear target disk
With this option set, every diskette will be preceded by a menu:
+-----------------ATTENTION------------------+
All files in the target disk will be deleted
Delete Do not delete
+--------------------------------------------+
If you choose "Delete" all files on the disk will be deleted.
This feature is useful for copying a large file to a single diskette
with insufficient capacity.
Notice: This feature can be used only when copying on a removable
diskette.
LotLAN support
If you use network disks and backup the files on the file server,
with this option set you can activate built-in network features, which will
speed up your work significantly.
ADD TO ARCHIVE
With this option set, the backup will add the files to the old
archive instead of creating a new one.
WRITE SETUP
Save the file list tagged (with [Ins]) in the file panel A.
+------------------------------------+
Save the setting in file
+------------------------------------|
E:\WORK\TR_BACK\trback.stp
+------------------------------------+
LOAD SETUP
Load a list of files (see "Write setup).
PLANNER
The planner menu can be called up like follows:
1) Select the item "Setup" in the "Other" menu. In the next
menu select the item "B - setting backup copying", and then the item
"Planner".
2) Press [Ctrl-S], [B] and select the item "Planner".
After which the following menu will appear:
+--------------------------+
Trust Back Planner
+--------------------------+
W Files for copying
H Time for backup
B Buffer size
K Hot keys
E Main menu
+--------------------------+
This is used to install setup for operations in the background mode.
When doing backup one needs to define: backup files and directories, backup
disk, time for backup, buffer size.
Files for copying
Select the files or directories for backup. If you have tagged files
and directories in the file window they will be shown in this window. You
may also delete a file from the list or add a new one. To add more files
you will have to go to the end of the list (Item "Next") and then choose
"Add".
Enter the backup destination disk (the "Where to" item) as A:, for
instance:
+-----------------------------------+
Files for copying
+-----------------------------------+
Files d:\WORK\TR_BACK\NEW
(Path) 1 of 1
Where to: d:
(Disk)

Add Delete Prev Next OK ESC
+-----------------------------------+
Time for backup
Used for setting of the time, days of the week and idle time for
backup. Delay is the idle time. If, for instance, the delay of three seconds
is set, then the backup will start or continue if during these three seconds
an entry from the keyboard is expected but does not occur, that is when the
computer runs idle. To make the backup independent of time, set 24:00 and
it will occur any time of the day or night.
+-----------------------------------+
Time for backup
+-----------------------------------+
Delay: 3 seconds
Time of copying: 16:00
Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
x
+-----------------------------------+
Buffer size
In the background mode the TRB.COM, TR_CH.COM, TR_SL.COM are resident
TSR, thus lowering the amount of free memory which can be noticeable when
running large packages.
The less the buffer size you specify the lower is the probability that
other applications are affected. The recommended size is 4096 bytes. In
this case the resident modules occupy about 13 K. However, the smaller the
buffer, the slower is the backup.
Hot keys
Continue key - key for immediate start or continuing of backup
Pause key - interrupt backup, disregarding the fact of the CP running
Abort key - aborts backup and saves the buffer to disk.
WORKING IN BACKGROUND MODE
In the background mode you can create backup of tagged files, as well
as newly edited or created files. In order to do this, you need to specify
the files, idle time of the computer. You may also specify any particular
day of the week and the backup start time.
The TRUST BACK module comprises the following programs:
TRB.EXE - resident module (background mode)
TR_CH.COM - resident module (background mode)
TR_SL.COM - resident module (background mode).
It is recommended to load TRB.EXE as it itself loads TR_CH.COM or
TR_SL.COM, depending on the mode.
1. Enter the Trust back Main menu by pressing [Ctrl-S],[B] and
choose the "Copying mode" item.
2. Choose the "copy Modified files" or "copy Tagged files".
When choosing the former mode, the backup copy is created as a file and
the "As an archive" option is simply ignored., while in the latter backup is
created in form of an archive (i.e. in form of BACKUP.xxx files, where x is
a figure).
If one of the tagged files is changed (updated) then the TRUST BACK
checks whether the time period given in the "Delay" field has passed in
idle. If it has passed, then TRUST BACK checks whether the current time
corresponds to that of the "Time for backup".
The backup copy will be contained on the disk specified in the "Where
to:" field (within "Files for copying") as a file and not as an archive.
So, if you have to back up files D:\WORK\TR_BACK.ASM on the E: drive, the
resulting backup copy shall be at E:\WORK\TR_BACK.ASM.
Notice: You will get an error message if size of the file will be
larger than a diskette.
3. Tag the files in the file windows.
4. In the "Files for copying" choose disk for the backup copy to be saved
to and then choose "OK". After this, the chosen file list will be saved
to disk in the TRBACK.STP file. Once you alter the list, choose the "OK"
once again for the TRBACK.STP file to be updated.
5. In the "Time for backup" specify the delay, day of the week and
time.
6. Choose the buffer size in the "Buffer size" item. The optimal size is
4096 Bytes.
7. Start TRB.EXE program. It should be included in the same directory as
the Command Processor.
For your convenience you may include call of the TRB.EXE in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Using the TRB.EXE program
Command line parameter:
trb.com u
- UNINSTALL - - unload the resident part.
NOTICE:
1. When specifying the WHERE TO file destination you may use "*" wild card.
D:\WORK\*.ASM
D:\WORK\*.A**
D:\*.* - backup for the whole D: disk.
2. In the WHERE TO field ("Files for copying") you may specify any logical
disk, including network ones.
3. The TRUST BACK creates the following files while working: configuration
files TRACK.CNF, list files TRACK.STP. It is not recommended to delete
the files as once done so, you will have to start all over again with the
setups.
