swApping setup
When you start a program from CP, the CP itself remains in the memory,
thus occupying some part of it which might be required by the program. To
make CP occupy only 512 Bytes when another program is run set the swapping
option. Then, each time you run another program, the CP will swap itself to
an area designated by the option you have chosen in "Swapping setup" menu.
To setup swapping:
1) Select the "Setup" item in the "Other" menu and then the "Swapping
setup" item
2) Press [Ctrl-S] and [A].
Then choose the parameters in the "Swapping setup" menu:
No swapping
No swapping occurs when starting another program.
swap to Fixed file
When starting another program, the CP swaps itself into a file, the
name of which can be chosen using "fixed temporary file name" option.
The directory for this file can be chosen using "Directory for
temporary file" option.
swap to Unique file
When starting a program the CP swaps itself from memory into a file
with a unique name in the directory specified using the "Directory for
temporary file" option. This is necessary when working in a
multitasking environment, but not so convenient otherwise, as your may
be filled with temporary files after restarting, at power breakdown,
etc.
swap to Extended memory
CP swaps itself into the extended memory presence of the HIMEM.SYS
driver, though not obligatory, is preferable.
swap to eXpanded memory
CP swaps itself to the expanded memory.
Auto selection
CP chooses the area for swapping itself into.
Directory for temporary file
Choose this option for specifying the directory which will be used by
CP when swapping itself into a file. By default, the current directory
is used.
fixed Temporary file name
Choose this option for specifying the file name to be used by CP when
swapping. By default, the CP uses the CP$TEMP$.$X$ name.
Leave menu
When having no less than 64K EMS or expanded memory, choose the swap to
memory option, for it is faster than swapping into a file.
